HERITAGE LOTTERY FUNDED
___
Faith, Reason, Arson and Riot: The Old Meeting House and It’s 300 Year Heritage was a Heritage Lottery funded project that shared the unique history of The Unitarian Meeting House in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Staffordshire during its 300th anniversary year.
Historically Unitarian Meeting Houses faced much opposition and Newcastle Unitarian Meeting House was no exception. In 1715 rioters opposed to dissention burnt the Meeting House down and it was rebuilt 2 years later in 1717.
To commemorate this important anniversary an inclusive programme of participatory heritage events, activities and talks took place alongside reminiscence gathering sessions, research and exploration in to the Meeting Houses rich history.
The project enabled our beautiful grade II listed building to be open up its doors and be shared with the public, breathing new life in to it, raising awareness of its history, its local and national significance and preserving its history for the future.
